Aid supply

From an earlier interview with Eilika: “Imagine, that during summer holiday there is a huge catastrophe. Situation is the following: Doctors are perfectly qualified, but the most needed appliances are missing. Semmelweis University in Budapest is highly reputed, students not only from Hungary, but from all over the world are taught here to be doctors. The level is world-famous, there is intention to help, but the circumstances, they are inhuman… And here is the moment, where we can help. If, through the foundation – with a little help – I can contribute to get these circumstances better, then I am here to face the challenge.“

1999, Flood on the river Tisza

As Hungary is a flat and wide country, it suffers floods again and again. Heavy rains and permanent groundwaters practicly ruin the whole region. This is why in November 1998 one of the Hungarian private television companies, TV2 and the Habsburg Eilika Foundation together, on private initiative gave help to the victims. Until that time it was the biggest donation through television in Hungary. People gave more than 3 000 000 HUF. A very little village close to the Ukranian border, Szatmarcseke got the least help. The village was under water for more than 4 weeks, so its houses became totally useless. Unemployment rate is extremely high, salaries very low, and there was no social help for the victims.
